My initial research thoughts

I have decided to look at the distribution of dance. I am originally from Nottingham and have been amazed by moving to London how often I am able to see high-quality contemporary dance. In this last 8 months I have seen more than I have probably seen in my entire life.

I want to find out why the amount of dance that goes to other regions is so low. I want to look at how we can distribute dance better throughout the country both physically and through new technology.

From my initial research there seems to be the belief that there is not an audience and so it is hard for companies to tour to regional venues. This has led to me wanting to look at audience development in conjunction. The two are related. There is no point touring countywide if there is not the audience so we need to develop the audience so it is feasible and viable for companies to tour countrywide.
